Grief and Loss
Loss is a part of life. Grief is natural. Sometimes, though, the loss feels too great and the grief cannot progress. The path toward healing can become blocked. It is important to realize that grief does not only come about when a person loses a loved one. People can grieve for the loss of health, of identity, even of a phase of life. I have worked effectively with many people around loss in all of these spheres, aiding in the grieving process, helping the mourner toward a healing and transformative experience. Ultimately, it is possible to grow from our grief without dismissing the importance of what we have left behind.
Depression and Anxiety
Depression and anxiety are two of the most commonly diagnosed mental health disorders. Unfortunately in psychology today, they are each too often treated as a uniform issue. It is my philosophy of practice to listen carefully to the unique context and presentation of clients who present with depression or anxiety. When the full story is left unheard, when the human being is left unseen, the symptom is treated as a random event and meaning cannot be made of it. Effective treatment of these disorders places at its center the individual, and depression and anxiety can be reduced or eradicated even as creativity and self-knowledge flower.
